It was a sad day for football when at the end of the 2018-19 seasons Notts County were relegated out of the Football league for the first time. It was especially sad as the team is a founding father of the Football league dating back to its beginnings in 1888. To make matters worse the club is also suffering from financial woes and may not even be able to continue as a going concern.  They have never troubled the football world in terms of honours with a third place in 1890-91 season being their highest ever position and a single FA Cup win in 1894. It’s fair to say that the glory days of the club were in the 19th Century.

They then became a yo-yo sort of club. They fell down through the leagues and has to watch the growing success of their two great rivals Nottingham Forest (League and European cup winners) and Derby County all ascend beyond them. The 1950’s saw them as a “sleeping giant” but they never seemed to wake up and spent the first part of the twentieth century moving between the second and third divisions never able to get back to the first division again. The 1950’s saw them stuck as middle table Second Division also ran’s until time and the inevitable seemed to catch up with them and they fell to the fourth. Here they remained until resurgence in the 1970’s saw them reach the First Division again. Unfortunately they could not join the Premier League party being relegated the season before it began and missing out on the new lucrative football world. Despite rumours of a buyout this has never come and they must now play outside the league after 157 years.

In a strange twist their kit is the reason that the huge Italian giants Juventus play in black and white stripes since 1903. This was very different to the pink shirts and black ties, sent in error; they were wearing at the time. They asked their English player John Savage if he knew anyone who could send some more hardwearing ones, Savage called a friend in Nottingham and he duly sent Notts County black and white ones. They loved them.  You might be in need of Cheap Football Kits, a visit to an online company like www.kitking.co.uk/ might be the answer.

Juventus, in contrast to Notts have won the Serie A titles 35 times, the Coppa Italia 13 times and the Champions league/European cup twice. They did play Notts County in an exhibition match to say thank you for the shirts and open there new stadium in 2011. Result  1-1.
